Adult Ministries

We desire that every individual be vitally connected in community, fully invested in Christ’s church, and growing together in the image of Christ. We believe that the ingredients for this are found through connecting in a small group, by investing in the lives of others in the church, and serving fellow Christians in the congregation.

At South Shore Baptist Church we have many different ministries providing opportunities for you to serve and love this local church. Take some time to see where your faith and walk with Christ can be grown.

sunday mornings

Sunday School

Sunday Mornings 9:45-10:45 am

...that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight... Philippians 1:9

God's Son was a teacher. His followers went out to teach. God uses truth taught to renew us, mature us and equip us to endure and serve.

You're already here Sunday morning - why not head to Sunday School class! Some topics run for only a few weeks. Every six weeks or so we gather for a special event: perhaps a missionary report or a discussion of the church's vision.

See the brochure for details, or contact Pastor Seth at seth@southshorebaptist.com

Stephen Ministry

Care & Counseling

2011 Stephen Ministry Brochure

“Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

Churches are fellowships of love and care inspired by the love of God in Christ." As God's amazing love holds our attention, his joy and satisfaction overflow within - even when bad things happen. Christian friendships and small groups strengthen our hearts through the ups and downs. Four kinds of special attention help us through special challenges.

PRAYER
Prayer requests are collected with the offering on blue prayer card or by contacting the church office. Members of our prayer team are available in the sanctuary after Sunday morning services. The elders are happy to gather when called for special prayer for the sick. Call to have your request listed in our weekly prayer bulletin called "The Vine."

COUNSELING
At root, our problems are not just relational, physical, emotional or mental. Our underlying problem has been described as a "worship disorder". Since the problem is spiritual, the solution must be spiritual as well.

We are not a counseling center, yet the Gospel brings meaning, joy and hope to broken lives. Our contribution to counseling is a focus on applying God's redemptive Word to all of life. Contact an elder or pastor for counseling.

CARE

PRACTICAL HELP
The first Christians chose trusted leaders to coordinate practical care (Acts 6). We have a similar team called by the biblical name "Deacons" (meaning "servants"). They offer confidential financial help, advice, accountability and other tangible assistance. Call the church office for referral and informaton on food shopping discounts through a coop.

THE STEPHEN MINISTRY
This is a team of lay caregivers ready to come alongside one-to-one during difficult times of loss, transition or crisis. See the brochure for details. Contact Pastor Seth for referral. (781) 749-2592 X103 seth@southshorebaptist.com

ADDICTIONS SMALL GROUP
This is a small group designed around learning how to turn to Scripture when we are tempted to head toward our addiction of choice. Please call Micheal Gerry 781-733-6556.

GRIEFSHARE
GriefShare is a special seminar and support group for people greiving the loss of someone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time. Contact Ann Anderson Berley 781-405-3418 or Maureen Conway 781-820-2635.

Home Bible Studies

Small Groups

Small group Bible studies are exactly what their name implies: small groups of people coming together (typically in someone's home) to study the Bible. Small groups provide an opportunity for personal prayer, discussion and support that is sometimes more difficult to find in a large Sunday gathering.

Our small groups meet throughout the week all over the South Shore. We have groups for all walks of life: men, women, couples, singles, and open groups where anyone is welcome. Some groups are studying a book of the Bible. Others are studying what the Bible says about a particular topic. Still other groups focus more on prayer.

Why not take the next step and visit a small group? Contact Pastor Godwin, godwin@southshorebaptist.com, to learn more about existing groups or starting a new group.

Sermon Series Studies

Several Small Groups will study the Gospel of John alongside Pastor Jeramie's preaching of it. We will use two guides in our study:

John by the Navigators (Life Change Series)
The Message of John by Bruce Milne

Look for these at our book table!

Couples

Mission Statement

The SSBC Couples Ministry exists to advance the mission of the church by strengthening Christ-centered marriage relationships. The Couples Ministry offers hope and encouragement to married couples by providing opportunities, such as a Sunday School class, small groups, special speaker events, and social events, to help meet the following objectives:

a) Provide a forum for building Christ-centered couple relationships and fellowship.
b) Help provide clear guidance around God's model for marriages.
c) Strengthen couples' relationships with each other and with Christ.
d) Fun!
e) Provide a stepping stone for couples that are experiencing challenges in their marriage.
(Please note that we are NOT counselors, but we can offer our own experiences, reading resources, counseling options, and, most importantly, prayer and anonymity.)
If you would like to receive Couples Ministry announcements and information by email, please send an email request to ssbc_couples@yahoo.com.

Seniors

Senior Fellowship

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8

Our Ministry

Senior adults are an important part of our church body and community. Modern seniors want to remain useful, continue to learn and grow personally and remain viable and valuable members of their families, communities and churches.

South Shore Baptist Church reaches out to those 55 and older through a monthly program called Senior Fellowship. This ministry is a non-denominational outreach of SSBC. We meet monthly to provide seniors a place for fellowship, a hot home-cooked meal, and a special program that includes featured speakers, music, scripture and prayer.

Additionally, Senior Fellowship provides a support network where seniors receive close Christian fellowship and opportunities to worship, while providing a variety of prgrams that entertain and present general topics that will interest our group of Seniors. Past topics and discussions include: health enrichment, music groups, and missionary visits from abroad.
