welcome

Jeramie South Shore Baptist Church is a local gathering of people from all walks of life. We have a simple vision: To glorify God and follow Jesus. We do this by putting our faith in him for our salvation, living according to the Bible's teachings as the holy Spirit enables us, caring for one another as a church family, and bringing the Gospel to our friends, relatives, the South Shore and beyond. We desire to know Christ in a way that changes us to be more like him, and in turn changes the world through us. Come explore with us what it means to be a biblically faithful church in the modern world.

our history

About Us

Second Baptist Church of Hingham began in 1947 as a small Bible study in the basement of a home on Main Street in Hingham. The founders had a vision for a church built on the Bible's teachings and a passion for spreading the gospel message around the world through missionaries. The church eventually changed its name to South Shore Baptist Church (SSBC) to reflect its growing concern for reaching the region with the good news. As SSBC grew it relocated to a local meeting hall and in 1958 built the current sanctuary. God has blessed SSBC with a history of faithful Bible preaching, a loving church community, persistent prayer, and a concern for people to know Jesus both locally and globally.

South Shore Baptist Church is affiliated with the Conservative Baptist Association of America.

our worship service

What to Expect

Expect a friendly church where people are approachable and where children are cared for in a safe environment. We provide child care throughout the service for children from birth to preschool. Kindergarten through1st Grade can attend Children’s Church during the sermon.

Service length is about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes long. Expect a longer service on Communion Sundays which is the last Sunday of each month. Music will include hymns and worship songs and a variety of instruments in both services. We love to sing and place an emphasis on congregational singing.

Between our morning services we host a coffee fellowship. During this time many people reconnect, pray, and fellowship with each other. Adult, Youth, and Children's Sunday School classes begin at 9:45am.

The Bible is the center of South Shore Baptist Church. We read the Bible, and we take it seriously. Our sermons include both a thoughtful analysis ofthe Bible and a practical application of the Bible's message to our modern lives.

But most importantly, we come expecting to have an encounter with God through his Word.

Membership

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves." Romans 12:10

We believe commitment to a local church has a vital role in Christian maturity. The New Testament everywhere assumes that followers of Jesus are associated with other Christians in local congregations. Through church membership we intentionally commit ourselves to loving and supporting one another as we follow Jesus together. South Shore Baptist Church tries to take seriously the biblical model of committed, accountable church fellowship. The church leadership prays regularly and cares especially for church members. Many service roles in the church are filled only by members. We have seen time and time again the joy and encouragement that church membership brings to believers. It's God's plan for revealing his Kingdom and it's beautiful to see. Are you a member of a local, Bible-believing congregation? Would you like to learn more? Join us for one of our upcoming membership classes. Bring your questions and join the discussion. Contact: Pastor Godwin 781-749-2592 x123 or email.
